During Operation Savannah it was the rain and swollen rivers along with objections from the west, mostly the yanks (over gulf oil interests) which forced the SADF to withdraw. America didn’t lose the Vietnam war. North Vietnam finally went to the Paris Peace Accords because America was bombing them back to the Stone Age. They agreed to all of the terms. America also promised to pull out of Vietnam and provide South Vietnam with all and any equipment necessary to defend itself. However, after the democratic won a majority in congress, they refused to honor the agreement and turned its back on South Vietnam. North Vietnam then started testing and attacking. When they saw that America was not going to help the south, they commenced an all out invasion. In essence, it was a different war.
